This page explains the cookies and similar technologies Ikhaya24 uses, why we use them, and how you can control them. It supplements our Privacy Policy and your rights under POPIA s.18, s.23, and s.24.
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website you visit. They are widely used to make websites work, or work more efficiently, and to provide reporting information. We treat local-storage entries the same way as cookies in this policy.
2. Categories of cookies we use
- Essential cookies. Required for the site to function. These include the authentication session cookie set by NextAuth and the consent-state cookie (
ikhaya_cookie_consent) that records your choices on this page. You cannot opt out of essential cookies, but they do not track you across other sites. - Analytics cookies. Help us understand how the service is used so we can improve it. We do not currently deploy any third-party analytics; this category exists so your consent applies forward-compatibly if we ever introduce one.
- Marketing cookies. Would be used to measure the effectiveness of marketing campaigns. We do not currently deploy any; the category, like analytics, is forward-compatible and gated behind your explicit opt-in.
3. The consent cookie
When you accept, reject, or save preferences in our consent banner, we record your choice in a cookie named ikhaya_cookie_consent with these attributes:
- Lifetime: 1 year (renewed when you change your choice).
SameSite=Lax, accessible to client-side JavaScript so the banner can read its own state.- Shape:
{ essential: true, analytics: bool, marketing: bool, ts: iso8601, v: 1 }.
4. Managing your choice
You can change your preferences at any time by clicking Manage cookies in the footer, or by clearing cookies for this site in your browser settings. Clearing cookies will cause the consent banner to reappear on your next visit.
5. Third-party cookies
Embedded payment flows from PayFast set their own cookies on their own domain when you initiate a subscription. Those cookies are governed by PayFast's policy, not this one.
